Travis had his detractors in the beginning, but by the end of Season 2 he had the show’s most interesting narrative arc-one that seemed to have boundless destinations. After two full seasons, the Clark matriarch remains largely an empty shell-a woman clearly forged in the mold of Rick Grimes, with the terrible decision-making skills and fierce protective streak to match, but not much else. Truthfully, Madison’s death might have made more sense. And it’s that decision that highlights exactly how this show squanders its own potential time and time again. In Season 2’s final few episodes, Travis had toughened up and become a character that could really help the show along-an opportunity that Season 3, unfortunately, has decided to completely forgo. Last season, Nick was the emotional core of the series, as Frank Dillane performed most of the heavy lifting-at least, until Travis lost his son, Chris. Madison keeps asking for Travis, who has been cordoned off into a group of people meant to be killed-along with Nick and his girlfriend from La Colonia, Luciana.
